Privacy Policy – Work in Progress

Last Edited May 5, 2025

Introduction

The tuningyourgame.com website is a simple WordPress website created by a web designer/gamer. I am not a lawyer, nor can I afford one for the purposes of this gaming site which is a hobby. I enjoy posting content that others may find interesting, and as shown below, I employ Google Analytics and may use other mechanisms in order to see which content on my website gets the most views in order to get an idea of what content may be more useful to people who are interested in my posts. I will possibly also use technologies to block suspected hackers visiting this website which will require data collection.

In short, I’d like to know what content is useful, find broken or missing pages, prevent hackers on my website, and to do these things I am currently using these technologies as provided by one of the plugins I employ.

The information below is an edited version of the Privacy statement that came pre-installed on WordPress, and I’ve edited it to be as useful as possible.

Who we are

Our website address is: https://tuningyourgame.com. As stated earlier, the main purpose of this website is to provide gaming information/opinion as a hobby. At some time I may elect to put Google Ads on this website, allowing anyone the opportunity to ignore or click on them. Anyone is welcome to not visit the website any more if they do not like the banners, or block them.

Comments

Suggested text (this section has been left as-is): When visitors leave comments on the site we collect the data shown in the comments form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection.

An anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.

Media

Suggested text (this section has been left as-is): If you upload images to the website, you should avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) included. Visitors to the website can download and extract any location data from images on the website.

Cookies

Suggested text (the last paragraph in this section has been removed): If you leave a comment on our site you may opt-in to saving your name, email address and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies will last for one year.

If you visit our login page, we will set a temporary cookie to determine if your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser.

When you log in, we will also set up several cookies to save your login information and your screen display choices. Login cookies last for two days, and screen options cookies last for a year. If you select “Remember Me”, your login will persist for two weeks. If you log out of your account, the login cookies will be removed.

Embedded content from other websites

Suggested text (this section has been left as-is): Articles on this site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website.

These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracking your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that website.

Who we share your data with

Suggested text (this section has been left as-is): If you request a password reset, your IP address will be included in the reset email.

How long we retain your data

Suggested text (this section contains a minor edit mentioning comments held for moderation): If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognize and approve any follow-up comments. Comments will be held in a moderation queue, and approved, disapproved, trashed or marked as spam by, me, the website owner.

For users that register on our website (if any), we also store the personal information they provide in their user profile. All users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except they cannot change their username). Website administrators can also see and edit that information.

What rights you have over your data

Suggested text (2nd paragraph added): If you have an account on this site, or have left comments, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.

I do not intend to allow user accounts on this website. I do not feel a user account is necessary for reading the website’s content, or leaving comments.

Where your data is sent

Suggested text (this section contains a minor edit mentioning comments held for moderation): Visitor comments may be checked through an automated spam detection service.

How your data is used

This is covered in the first section at the top. To reiterate, this is a hobby bogging website for a web designer/gamer. I will post content about the game(s) I play that I feel may be interesting or useful to other gamers.
